Having lived in the U.S. for 23 years, I feel that it is so important to teach our children Chinese language and culture. All of us have seen the magnificent change of the world since we left China.  Our children shall learn Chinese for self confidence, identity, and future opportunity.

After receiving a Bachelor and Master degrees in Chinese literature and language, I came to U.S in late 80s to pursue a doctorate degree in Education. I started to teach Chinese at a local Chinese school since 1989. Later I continued my teaching at Tampa Bay Chinese School in 2003-2006. I published research papers at national level academic journals in both America and China. Recently I began to write for Art International “艺术国际”, an online international art site in Beijing. My new publication is at http://blog.artintern.net/idea2u

I also earned a BA and MA in accounting and taxation from University of South Florida. Currently, I am in a senior financial management position at a government agency, and hold the CPA license. I am members of the American Institute of CPAs, and Florida Government Finance Officers Association.

In addition, I am a board member of a non-profit entity. I served as a chairperson in the IB parent association.

Our children grow up in America with a different life style and social environment. The pedagogy of teaching Chinese shall be different from the traditional method used in China. I believe that teaching through fun activities and dramatic performance will enhance students’ learning interest. For the 8th grade class, I will design the curriculum with a focus on improving proficiency in speaking, spelling, and sentence making, and establishing a good foundation for advanced Chinese in future. I will implement “1 month 1 talk” (一月一话题)student conversation practice, for class interactions.

I've lived in Tampa for more than 20 years, and seen the growth of the Chinese-American community. My older daughter who was a Chinese school student, now is a sophomore in bio-engineering at MIT, and the campus newspaper "TECH" edditor. My younger daughter is an 8th grader in Farnell Middle School. In addition, their dad, a tenured full professor of visual arts,  brings more creative energy and inspiration to our family.

I would like to share my knowledge and passion of Chinese literature and culture to my bright students, and wish them happy and successful.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
